The Synchronicity between this and what Robert Saltzman has been talking about recently is amazing. Recently a shift occurred here where any thoughts, feelings or emotions that come up are quickly put through this cognitive filter “do I own them? Do I need to identify with them? Do I have to Claim them?”, the answer is always “no”. They can just occur, as they do. And there’s no meta annoyance “I am annoyed that I got annoyed”. Not sure how long this algorithm will last (life gives me PLENTY of opportunities to test it lol), but it seems to be working so far.
Yes I just visited Robert’s page which I haven’t been on in quite some time. And the synchronicity is uncanny. Apparently we are drinking from the same waterhole
lol yes I wasn’t suggesting that you had read his article already, I know everything you write is original and raw. Yes it’s uncanny how you both came up with the same thing.
Yes I wasn’t suggesting you were. Also looks like we posted on the exact same day which is even stranger. But as I read his article there are subtle differences although the overarching theme is similar
I felt a synchronicity reading this, Shiv. Yesterday, my daughter called and spoke to me about the looping app she had downloaded. I was thinking about using it myself to improve my musical ear, to practice harmonies and rhythms. And today I read your metaphor of looping to remind us that there is one source for all the music, that we need not get bound or identified to one musical idea or one experience. Allow them. Liberate them. You said, "Know yourself as the ultimate context within which the contents of your life rise, loop and fall endlessly." I wrote a poem Monday which said maybe it's as simple as being willing to have the experience you're having.
Upon reading your words; ”Know yourself as that aware space through which all these experiences can effortlessly flow. And learn to use your ego function artfully, not compulsively.”, from the last post ” The Self-Loop”, I instantly was reminded of just that. It is interesting how we in an instant can come to know that even though it can seem as if we have gone so far away from it.
Upon dropping the identification there also arose a question that I wanted to ask you about that is: How can I keep on reminding myself of this?
I see the compulsion of wanting to fill up the space that became empty with a new goal or project, or to distract myself with something to do to fill up the empty spot..
I see how easy it is to make this into a goal thinking that if I abide in this my presence will deepen. And in some way I want to believe that is true. But I wonder who has the need to abide as this at all and who is it that want to deepen it?
To believe that one is on its way to become enlightened is a trap so easy to fall in to.
The one that abides cannot deepen. The one that wants to deepen cannot abide. At any moment the two are visible. One is always striving while the other simply watches.
The result and matter of contemplating and pondering these wise words of yours; ” I see the mind as an imposter that can take the stance as anything.
It slowly creeps in, in every insight and breakthrough taking it to be its own.
The spiritual identity is a tough nut to crack because there is so many misconceptions which can distort clear seeing. For example being the seer. At times I can sit thinking that I am being awareness while I am really in fact acting upon the stance of the imposter that has taken the stance of awareness. It is tricky! But on who’s ground is it acting?
Things that we have read can become the very thing that blocks us from seeing clearly because we have come to believe that it is in a certain way.
Beliefs like;” you have to marinate as awareness or abide as presence to deepen in it”, or also;”you have to hold your feelings in awareness for them to be released”.
Everything can be taken advantage of by the imposter. And the more spiritual beliefs to hide behind it is less unlikely to expose it.
Being in this search for quite a while now I have come to understand that it is not about an I that is going to merge with presence or awareness, rather it is about peeling away layers upon layers of misconceptions and identity. Ways which we misconceive ourselves and misidentify ourselves.
Awareness always shines clear, it is just our misidentification that distort us from seeing that. ”
This post and this comment of yours really helped me get a breakthrough so thanks for that Shiv 🙏🏻 I’ve been acting and searching on the ground of an imposter all this time.. All these years. Geese
Now I have to be careful not making this into a new identity which in fact I noticed was about to happen.
I’m amazed how every single piece of your writing feels so fresh. Maybe in theory they are one of a finite set of topics, but they all feel like a unique flavor or signature distinct from any other.
It’s so easy to fall back into identifying with the contents of experience. It also resonates with me that ego is a mechanism rather than a thing that has been permanently dethroned. And that it adapts. How easy for ego to transform to a spiritual or higher ego or one of a more subtle form.

That is indeed a wonderful synchronicity Dawn. Thank you for bringing it up. And I’d like to read you read your poem if you are open to sharing it.

Exactly right. The mind can only ever experience the content of its own conditioning.
👌

Clear as a bell! I’ll shall ponder these words.. Thanks Shiv.

Also, that looping analogy *chefs kiss*.
